On a Honda?

Hayden was slow, slow, slow at Qatar and Dovisioso was fast, fast, fast and Italian to boot.

I know its just the beginning of the season, but rampant speculation needs to start some time, doesn't it?

Where does Hayden go next year if Repsol gives him the boot?

Discuss.

He should give Honda the boot before he loses all credibility. They give all the good new stuff to Pedrosa, and it eventually filters down to him. he did the winter testing, he is the ex champ. They have treated him badly. The guy has tallent. He needs to get another ride while he can.

Nicky reportedly rode the '07 by his own choice. Pedrosa rode an '08 with "chassis modifications".

Before we answer that, may I introduce a potentially incendiary, indeed thermo-nuclear notion.

That perhaps Nicky Hayden isn't that good a rider.

/me ducks for the fall-out shelter.

Before you start flaming me, please read a few more lines.

At the outset, (getting very defensive here) let me state quite clearly that Nicky Hayden has impressed me no end with his character, the way he has conducted himself with the utmost dignity, humility and plain good manners.

Even when Honda effectively ditched him after he won the title.
Even in the face of Dani's comments about set-up
And the evidence shows that no-one else has the same work ethic.

But.

Losail could have been an aberration.

But the thoughts that led me to the opening statement arose from pondering over the number of laps Nicky did in testing. The chance to set up the bike and the suspension to suit himself, as Dani was injured.

Yet he was tenth, the fourth Honda home, behind two different satellite (and acknowledged as inferior) bikes.

Why is it so?????

Could it have been an aberration??

But why in the face of all the work he did, did the race end so badly for him????

This from his post race comments.

Quote:

I was spinning a lot, which definitely didn't do the rear tyre any favours, I really think we just missed the setup and worked the tyre way too hard so I was spinning way too much.

We missed the set-up

Someone else recently stated, words to the effect that, "Dani was right, Nicky doesn't know how to develop a bike, he just keeps riding until he finds out how to ride around a problem"

If it was you and I've got the comment horribly wrong, please post the correct version, but that was the gist of it as I recall.

So, given that many people posted comments, here and elsewhere that his 2006 title was due to Rossi's problems, Marco beating Rossi by the width of a bee's dick, etc, etc, etc (Unkind comments), is there a market for Hayden's services.

I suppose I'm asking, (as politely as I can) would he be in demand?

No need to flame ...
I understand your point.
I have a lot of trouble separating 'emotive' comments from 'fact'.

I think Nicky is an outstanding example of what riders' should aspire to. As you have said, i have said, many have said, he is a person of outstanding character in view of what he has had to do / put up with. I have enjoyed watching him 'mature' into the man that he is ...

But a rider that someone would climb over another to sign ?

Here i go again ... emotion dictating choice ...

IMHO - i really do think he deserves another shot, with another team.
The environment in perhaps say Tech 3, may well produce a scenario not unlike Colins current situation ( postulating of course that Colin will do well this year ... ).
I DO think he has the ABILITY ... i just don't think he has been in the environment to show his ability.

Yes, i would sign him for a year with an option clause.
And that is not made on a 'emotive' whim ...

He will make a welcome addition to the 'new' Team Roberts camp in 09 ...
What a story ...

Team Roberts and Nicky Hayden win the 2009 MotoGP championship

Yes, i know.
I'm going to the medicine cabinet now ...

i have no clue as to whether this suggestion carries
any real world weight; but on it's face it seems the best
idea i've heard in a long time. Toseland & Hayden.
sounds like great chemistry to me. Toseland has
shown so far that he well knows how to show
respect to another rider. Hayden, i believe,
would have no problem not being the lead
team rider given a bilateral atmosphere of
respect and cooperation.

From Autosport

Quote:
Autosport.com understands that only Dani Pedrosa had the latest version of the machine available to ride during the Qatar Grand Prix last weekend.

That left Hayden with older bike as an option, together with a 2007 machine that was freighted into Qatar at the last minute on Thursday.

Hayden rode the older 2007-spec bike, two generations back of his teammate's and finished in a distant 10th position.

From this article.

Seems to me that once again, HRC shafts Nicky in favor of Pedrosa. I hope Pedrosa enjoyed riding the bike Nicky developed over the winter tests.

Wow .. thats quite a bombshell. Thats the only place I have read that.

Anyone find that juicy tidbit anywhere else?

If true, that puts the whole Hayden Qatar race into a completely different light.

Agreed?

Who knows, but Honda do have a history of screwing over Hayden to promote Pedrosa, so this scenario is plausible simply because Honda have acted in a similar manner on previous occassions.

"Dear motorcycling gods, please hear my prayer: Give Hayden a decent chance and please let Dovi finish above Pedrosa in the standings. This in the name of the pnuematic valve we ask"

12-14 months ago

Why would Ducati sign Casey Stoner, that guy destroys a bike every other race. He's going to kill himself or be out of the series in a couple years.
