Apparently the HJC has failed to deliver the helmets in time and Colin loaned one to Spies use.

maybe HJC couldn't pass FIM safety standards...

HJC missed getting Spies helmets to Sepang in time (doh!) and Ben used Edwards spare with the "Arai" name covered up

I was thinking Rossi looked kind of scrawny and unhealthy.
I don't know why, but it bothers me the way these guys "have" to be lean and ultra-fit. Barry Sheene didn't work out did he?
Rossi never used to look very fit -- kind of tall and gangly. This year he looks quite a bit different. My first impression was --- unhealthy.
Is that the way you have to be to be competetive?

Against Pedrosa and other very small riders on 800's?
Yes.

Spies had fogging issues with his HJC when racing at Indianapolis in 2008. I would wager that if this occurs again, a switch will be made. IIRC, Pedrosa switched from Nolan to Arai for similar reasons.

I've been wondering how long it would take for Spies to get swept up by Arai or Shoei. HJC dropping the ball like that... hmmm...

Yes. It doesn't mean you're unhealthy, it just means you're incredibly fit.

He had me until:
Quote:
"Some of those midgets that race in Europe in grand prix, you put them on a superbike in America at Infineon, they'll last about 5 laps, they'll be done. They'll be done. They ain't keeping up with Ben Spies or Mat Mladin. Some of these race tracks over here, on a 200 horsepower superbike ... some of those guys will fall off the bandwagon in about 5 seconds flat."

I'm sure the midgets are staying up at night hoping Mladin doesn't go over there and tear them new ones.

Well Rossi is still Rossi, no surprise there.
It's only testing, but Spies is definitely exceeding expectations!
The fifth alien? Cool
Was hoping for more from Simoncelli and Aoyama.
Then again none of the satellite Hondas were too impressive.

I know it was really hot, but Capi is starting to look old!

Well.....Capirex is no spring chicken! What the hell you want? Starting to see some gray around the temples there..............

Also.....it's a very interesting pic. Capi looks like he's daydreaming........thinking about stuff other than MotoGP. Normally, in his photos he's very alive and animated! Capi is a good man......a classic. Nothing bad can be said about him as far as I'm concerned.

I concur with my buddy Sanfret........

Great pics! Thanks for the hard work!

Especially like the pic of Vale/Edwards..........interesting Vale's wearing his Sepang 2009 "victory" helmet.......not the 5 Continents he has on in his 2010 press photos.

The pic of Simoncelli sliding in into/around that turn is awesome too.

While Hayden was a great superbike rider, that was also at a time when the 1000cc twins had an advantage over the 750cc fours if I remember correctly.

Maybe a little... (said the Hayden fanboy)
There was a displacement advantage for the Honda, but the Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha all won races that year.
Eric Bostrom on the Kawi ended up a close 2nd with 4 wins and 11 podiums.
Mladin was way down in 7th with 0 wins and 3 podiums after an elbow injury in practice at Daytona. If Mladin would have been at %100 and continuing the epic battles with E-Boz from 2001 the title may well have ended up in different hands.

Casey and Marco seem to have avoided the fogging issue - perhaps Pedrosa is a mouth breather Wink
